Ruby Rae Richard

April 15, 1925 — August 21, 2011

Mrs. Ruby Rae Richard, 86, slipped away peacefully into eternal rest during the late evening hours of August 21, 2011.


Mrs. Richard was born to the late Raleigh and Mary Louise Spell on April 15, 1925, the oldest of twelve children. She wed the late Mr. Warner "Pie" Richard on May 30, 1941 and they resided in Lake Charles. Their sixty-nine years of marriage produced seven children; five sons and two daughters. She taught Sunday School at Bethel Baptist Church for a number of years and in recent years, enjoyed playing Bingo, visiting with her numerous family and friends, and regularly attended chapel services at Resthaven Nursing Center.


Mrs. Richard was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Warner "Pie" Richard; sons, David, Dean, and Sonny; and grandson Delbert Wayne Richard.


Mrs. Richard is survived by her brothers Carl Ray Spell and David Spell both of Lake Charles; sister, Agnes Spell of Salisbury, MD; children Robert Richard and wife Katy of Big Lake, Gary Richard and wife Faye of Westlake, Kathy Stutes and husband Emery of Sulphur, Charlotte Richard of Ragley; along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.


Her funeral will be at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Robert D. Sonnier will officiate. Burial will be in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of services, today.
