Rufus Nathan Stutes

December 22, 1925 — July 8, 2018

Rufus Nathan Stutes, 92, of Lake Charles LA passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Nathan, as he was known by his friends, was born on December 22, 1925 to Rufus and Martha Faulk Stutes in Ebenezer, LA.

 

Nathan was raised in Ebenezer and graduated from Crowley High School. After graduation he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Nathan worked as an inventory clerk for Entex for 39 years until his retirement in 1987. Nathan loved to work with his hands, especially working with wood. He was able to fix just about anything around the house.

 

Nathan was a devoted and loving family man. He was the type of man who always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger. He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church as well as the W.B. Williamson Post of the American Legion.

 

Nathan is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Bernice Hoffpauir and grandson LCpl Daniel Gueringer, USMC.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 70 years, Irma Ann Boudreaux Stutes, one son, Chuck (Kathy) Stutes and three daughters, Belinda Burgess and partner Dianne Broussard, Sandra (William) Gueringer and Debora (Stafford) Vincent. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

 

The family will receive friends from 4:30-8PM on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Johnson Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 6:30PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday, July 12, 2018, from 8AM until time to leave for the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church at 10AM, officiated by Father Sam Orsot. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
