It has been said that when it rains a soul enters Heaven. Rupert Moreland Thompson was born on October 24, 1917 in Dodson, Louisiana and passed away on a rainy Friday morning, April 10, 2015. Her family lovingly referred to her as "Maw." Maw loved cooking and having dinner parties. She also loved teaching. She was a graduate of Merryville High School and Louisiana Tech, where she received her Master's Degree in Home Economics. She met and married Norman Thompson, who served in the army. They both enjoyed living various places until his retirement when they settled in Lake Charles. Out of 67 years of marriage, the fondest memories were of Japan. Mrs. Thompson was a teacher at Lake Charles High School until her retirement in 1980, where she influenced children and adults alike. She will always be remembered for her hilarious compliments, her kind words, and her stories about her many great adventures in her wonderful life. Mrs. Thompson was beautiful and smart, and her loved ones still Earth side know that angels will lead her in. Maw was greeted in Heaven by her parents, Lovick Pierce Moreland and Bertha Rodgers Moreland, her siblings, Betty Jo Stevenson, Mary Oxman Holder, William Moreland, and Lambuth Pierce Moreland, her loving husband, Norman Thompson, and her precious great grandchild, Joseph Eastman. Maw leaves her children Clare Banzhof and her husband Charles, Laura Boullion and husband Ray, and Ross Thompson and wife Sherry; dearest friend, Daniel Ieyoub; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren to carry on in her absence.
