Russell L. Hoffpauir Sr.

December 3, 1939 — January 12, 2022

Russell Louis Hoffpauir, Sr., 82, of Lake Charles passed away unexpectedly at 9:05 AM on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 in his residence.

Mr. Hoffpauir was born on December 3, 1939 in Duson, LA.  He was a graduate of LaGrange High School and attended McNeese State University before joining the US Marine Corps.  Upon being honorably discharged, he began a career with the Lake Charles Police Department, retiring as a detective sergeant.  After retiring he worked the next 30 years as a security guard at Citgo Refinery.  Mr. Hoffpauir was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.

He was an accomplished accordion player and enjoyed gardening.  Mr. Hoffpauir could often be found working on a project whether it be building something or digging a pond.  He took great pride in his health and kept up with his physique with body building.  In his earlier years, Mr. Hoffpauir took Aikido with his grandson and was the recipient of a second-degree black belt within the first 6 months of training.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jennifer Hoffpauir Bellon (Rene Joe); a sister, Verdie Hoffpauir Bellard; and grandchildren, Alex Bellon Doucet (Jay), Nick Bellon (Avery Pousson Bellon), Magi, Dakota, Benjamin, Cheyenne, and Angelina Bellon. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Beaugh Hoffpauir; a son, Russell Louis Hoffpauir, Jr.; his parents, Seburn and Ella Mae Veronie Hoffpauir; and siblings, Clifford Hoffpauir, Bernice Hoffpauir Johnson, and Rita Hoffpauir Fontenot.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.  The Rev. Levi Thompson will officiate.  Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Visitation will begin on Sunday at University Baptist Church from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM.  Visitation will resume on Monday from 9:00 AM until leaving for the church at 10:30 AM.
