Russell Reeves, 63, died Saturday, January 10, at his home in Galliano, LA from complications from over a 3 year battle with cancer. Born on March 28, 1951, in Lake Charles, LA, Russell resided in the Galliano, LA area for over 25 years. Russell learned his exemplary work ethic at an early age working with his father in the fields at his childhood home, and his mother's home till this day, in Gillis, LA. Russell also owned and operated a successful erosion control business for over 25 years until he retired in 2013. He was a well respected member of his community, a member of First Baptist Church of Golden Meadow, and a 3rd degree Mason of the Masonic Lodge. Russell was an avid sportsman, fishing and hunting any chance he was allowed. Most of all, Russell was known for the love he showed towards his friends and family. His door was always open and happy to greet anyone with a handshake and a smile. William Shakespeare He is survived by his wife Lorraine Reeves, of Galliano, LA; his mother, Berna Dean Reeves of Gillis, LA; his sister, Colleen Reeves and companion Robert of Houston, TX.; Russell's four children, Chad Reeves and wife Jessica of Ragley, LA, Brandon Reeves and wife April of Lafayette, LA, Amanda Winterbottom and husband Jay of Moss Bluff, LA, and step-son, Randy "Chene Wa" Cheramie and wife Vickie of Golden Meadow, LA. Russell has seven grandchildren: Shaye Cheramie, Trey Cheramie, Evan Reeves, Isabella Reeves, Grady Reeves, Morgan Richardson and Bella Johnson. Russell was preceded in death by his father, Robert "Bob" Reeves and step-son Corey Cheramie. Funeral services were held January 15th at First Baptist Church of Golden Meadow.
