Russell Scott Hagar

December 8, 1959 — September 4, 2023

Russell Scott Hagar, 63, passed away on September 4, 2023.  Russell was born December 8, 1959, and grew up in Sulphur, La. and Ragley, La.  He attended school in Sulphur until joining the United States Marine Corps in 1977 at the age of 17.  He spent most of his tour in California and Okinawa, Japan.  He was very proud to have served his country.  After time served in the Marines, he returned to California where he lived for several years, then returned home to Louisiana.  
Russell spent time working as a roofer and in the oil field before attending welding school.  He then began a long career in the petrochemical industry, traveling throughout the United States and Internationally doing turnaround work.  Through his hard work, dedication, and work ethic he became highly respected and recognized in the industry.  
He worked hard but always made the time to enjoy life and make many memories with his wife Janice.  He was a longtime motorcycle rider, golfer, fisherman, scuba diver, sailor, musician, and song writer.  He was very trustworthy, funny adventurous and sometimes a little stubborn.  He met many people over the years who became lifelong friends.  He was a very proud father and grandfather and loved his family with his entire being.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  
Russell is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Janice Hagar, son; Kevin Hagar (Kat), mother; Lorraine Newman, brother; Curtis Hagar, sister; Cynthia Hagar Dukes, stepdaughters; Angela Farris (Jeremy) , Melanie Heaton, stepsons; Gregory Gonzales (Chelle), Jessie Gonzales, nine grandchildren; Dilynn Hagar, Sophia Hagar, Kolten Hagar, Brianna Simon, Alivia Farris, Grady Farris, Clara Gonzales, Amelia Gonzales, Abigail Gonzales, and his little buddy; Murphy, the Sea Cat.  He is preceded in death by his father; Ruford Harron Hagar, brother; Keith Harron Hagar, and stepfather; Oscar Winters.
A Memorial service to celebrate Russell’s life will be at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home in Sulphur, La.  Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home until the time of the service.  Following the service family and friends are invited to attend a reception at the Moss Bluff home of Angela and Jeremy Farris.
