Ruth Ellen Girola

August 24, 1929 — December 2, 2020

Ruth Ellen Soileau Girola 91, was called to her new home in Heaven on Dec. 2, 2020 surrounded by her family at her son’s home in Ragley, La.   She was born on Aug. 24, 1929 in Eunice, La to Wilfred and Sadia Courville Soileau.

She was a graduate of Eunice High School. It was in Eunice, La where she met and married her husband LeRoy David Girola in 1948.  He was a tenor saxophone musician with The Bill Hummel Orchestra and they toured with the band for several years before settling down in Lake Charles, La. Ruth worked for Bel Oil Corp. for many many years before retiring.

Ruth was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Lake Charles, where in her younger years she was a member of the choir. Ruth loved her McNeese Cowboys and was a former member of the Cowboy Club. She was a member of the Pioneer Club and loved the Bingo nights.  Ruth played Domino’s for over 26 years with the same group of ladies. She loved them like sisters. 

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy Girola, her parents Wilfred and Sadia Soileau, one brother John Soileau, and a Great Grandson Brooks McKinley Girola.

She is survived by her sons, Dino David Girola (Casandra) of Ragley, La and Marty Lee Girola of Katy, Tx.  She was proud Grandmother to David Anson Girola (Becky) and Eric Ray Girola (Lacy) as well as five Great Grandchildren, Joy Elizabeth Girola, Whit Harvey Girola, Rhett Anson Girola, Kannon Ray Girola, and Anson West Girola.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joshua Whatley, Villa Maria Staff and all of her caregivers for all the pampering, love, care, and concern shown to Ruth. A special thank you to Betty Doyle, Nelva Rose Sauls, and Donna Thomas for their help during the Covid-19 pandemic, Hurricane Laura and Delta aftermath, along with Heart of Hospice nurse Christi Jeffels and staff.

A celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday Dec. 17, 2020 at 2pm at University Baptist Church in Lake Charles, La with visitation beginning at 11am until the time of service under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Bro. Johnny Dammon will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Lake Charles, La.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to La. Baptist Children’s Home, Dry Creek Baptist Camp, or Ethel Precht Hope Breast Cancer Foundation Inc.
