Ruth Lejeune Schmidt

October 31, 1942 — September 30, 2018

Ruth LeJeune Schmidt, 75, of Lake Charles passed away at 9:00 PM on Sunday, September 30, 2018 in her residence. She had fought and was a cancer survivor for eight years until recently.

 

Mrs. Schmidt was born on October 31, 1942 in Oberlin and had lived in Lake Charles most of her life. She was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church and attended St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Kinder.

 

She enjoyed spending time in her garden and doing yard work but most of all she cherished her time spent watching her grandchildren grow up.

 

Those left to cherish her memory are sons, Mark Ferriss of Kinder; Danny Wayne Ferriss (Erica) of Sulphur, and Scotty Hazelton (Belkis) of LeBleu Settlement; brother, Russell LeJeune of Vinton; sisters, Juanita Watkins of Oberlin and Linda LeJeune of Pitkin; seven grandchildren, Jason, Brandie, and Daniel Ferriss, Brittany and Tucker Hazelton, and Matthew and Sydney Mason; and five great grandchildren, Haylie and Madison Esthay, Miles and Peter Cole Ferriss, and Rowen Hazelton.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel and Mitchell LeJeune; husband of 38 years, Carl Theodore Schmidt; daughter, Karla Schmidt Mason; brother, Herbert LeJeune; and sister, Shirley Anding.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Samuel Orsot will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary being held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
