A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception Church on Monday, March 22, 2021 at 3:00 PM for Ruth (Ruthie) Deville Broussard, 96, of Lake Charles, La who died Friday, March 19, 2021 at her Son’s home surrounded by family.
Ruthie was born in Port Arthur, Texas then her family moved back to Opelousas where she was raised and graduated from Opelousas High School. She worked as a photographer for the Opelousas Daily World where she met the love of her life Narcisse “Bruce” Broussard. Ruthie belonged to the Ad & Press Club and Gridiron’s Comedy Show, Alter Society of the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception Church, Calcasieu Boat Club, Very Important Christians Club (VIC), Senior Citizens Craft Group and her Pokeno group. Ruthie never met a stranger and loved and lived life to the fullest.
She is survived by her two children, Stephen Dupre Broussard and his wife Lisa of Forked Island, and Mary Catherine Jeffers of Chloe; her two grandchildren, Brian Jeffers of Chloe and Katie Broussard Richard and her husband Brandon of Mire; her five great grandchildren, Ozzy and Gabriel Jeffers of Lake Charles and Liam, Layla and Landyn Richard of Mire; one niece Camille Girouard and husband Rusty of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her husband Narcisse “Bruce” Broussard, her parents Maurice and Elise Dupre Deville and her sister Jeanie Tepee.
Her funeral mass will be held at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception Church with Reverend Jace Eskind presiding. Rosary will be held at 2:30 PM followed by funeral mass at 3:00 PM with burial to follow at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin in the church at 1:00 PM.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Hospice of Acadiana, her hospice Nurse Whitney Credeur and CNA Sheena Domingue. Her wonderful caregivers Phyllis Nickel and Lisa Gaspard for their care and compassion given to Ruthie.
