Sabrina Shafer

November 14, 1957 — April 6, 2025

Sabrina Lathel Shafer, 67, of Lake Charles, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana, surrounded by her loving family.

Sabrina was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and made Lake Charles her home for many years. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she poured her heart into her family, always putting the needs of those she loved above her own. She found joy in the everyday moments—sharing stories, lending a listening ear, watching movies, and making everyone feel loved and welcomed.

She had a deep love for animals and always had a soft spot for any creature in need. She loved the outdoors, fishing, and gardening—despite not always having the greenest thumb, a stroll through a garden could instantly brighten her day. Sabrina also loved to shop. A perfect day for her could be summarized as a shopping plaza spree followed by a steak dinner or fajitas.

Sabrina was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Lavelle and Mary Lee Ball Lee. And her Nephew Ben (Bo) Newton.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 35 years, Ben Shafer, Sr. ; her children, Brandi Shelton, Jennifer Griffin, Christopher Shafer, and Benjamin Alan Shafer, Jr. ; and her beloved granddaughter and daughter of the heart, Sabrina Griffin.

She was a proud and loving grandmother to Ariel (Brad) Haigler, Shelton Fontenot, Sabrina Griffin, Hayden Fontenot, Sammi Zaatrah, Adam Zaatrah, Leanna Delaney, Lydia Shafer, and Beau Shafer. She leaves behind three great-grandchildren, whose lives were already touched by her love.

She is also survived by her siblings, Donna (Alton) Hamilton , Paula( Dave) Wilcox and David (Tina) Lee , along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who held a special place in her heart.

In keeping with her wishes, Sabrina's remains will be cremated under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles, and no formal services will be held.

Though her physical presence is gone, Sabrina’s gentle spirit, unwavering love, and the kindness she showed to all will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the blessing of knowing her.
