Sammy Holtzman, 82, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, December 14, 2011. He was surrounded by friends and family.
Sammy was born on February 1, 1929 in Lake Charles, LA. He was in the Vetenary Corp at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX for 2 years during the Korean Conflict, serving as Food Inspector for the U.S. Army. Sammy was an alumnus of McNeese State College. He was a member of the ROTC with an interest in military science.
He served as a board member and teacher at Temple Sinai.
Sammy was an entrepreneur starting retail businesses of various kinds. He developed multiple real estate subdivisions throughout Louisiana. He enjoyed raising cattle, fishing, shrimping, and going to auctions to purchase salvage equipment.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Miriam Spector Holtzman of New York city, NY; his three children, Leah Eisen and husband Stuart Eisen of Houston, Scott Holtzman of Lake Charles, and David Holtzman and wife Dawn Blanchard Holtzman of Lake Charles; and two grandchildren, Ashley and Mark both of Lake Charles. He is also survived by his sister, Sadelle Fischer of New York, and sister, Dorothy Franklin of Sun City, AZ, and his sister-in-law, Lynn Holtzman of Lake Charles.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Temple Sinai on Hodges St. Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
