Sam Guidry, 89, passed away on October 13, 2017 at his residence.
Sam was born in Morse, Louisiana to Lucille LaPointe and Ophey Guidry. He was a World War II Navy veteran, stationed in Guam. Sam married Gerdie Henry from Lyons Point, Louisiana in 1951. They moved to Houston shortly after their marriage, where he learned his trade of floor mechanic.
They relocated to Lake Charles in 1954. Sam was one of the area’s first floor mechanics and he ran Guidry’s Floor Service for 48 years. Sam was also a CB and ham operator and served as the Vice President and President of the local chapters. Sam loved coaching South Lake Charles Little League baseball, which he did for over 30+ years. After his coaching days, he became an umpire for the league. He was touched by the many lives of the young men he coached and umpired through those years.
After retiring from laying floors, Sam opened a lawnmower shop in 1996.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gerdie Henry Guidry; daughter, Sandran “Sandy” Guidry Barker; sons, Rickey Joseph Guidry (Jeannie) of Toledo Bend and Bobby Joseph Guidry of Lake Charles; grandson, Rylon Guidry of Frisco, Texas; granddaughter, Kennedy Guidry of Lake Charles; brother, George Guidry of Houston, Texas; and sister, Claudia Sonnier, of Kaplan, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 4 PM until 8 PM at Johnson Funeral Home and will resume on Tuesday from 9 AM until 11:30 AM. A rosary will be recited at Johnson Funeral Home on Monday at 6 PM.
