Samuel Joseph Cormie

Samuel J. "Sam" Cormie, 58, passed away, Tuesday, September 06, 2011 in his residence.

He was a native and life long resident of Lake Charles and later lived in DeRidder, where he was an active member of First Baptist Church of DeRidder. He was a graduate of LaGrange Senior High School. Sam worked as an officer for the Lake Charles City Police Department, the Calcasieu Parish Sherriff's Department, and the Beauregard Sherriff's Department for several years. He loved doing carpentry work and making cabinets. Sam worked as a manager at Cormie's Grocery for many years. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Air Force stationed in Korea. Sam was a gentle and compassionate person whom will be dearly missed.

Survivors include two sons, Brandon and Joshua Cormie; four grand children, Dylan, Auna, Kiya, and Coralynne Cormie; his parents, Mural R. Cormie, Sr. and Camille Calloura Cormie of DeRidder; three brothers, Mural R. Cormie, Jr. and companion Barbara, Nathan D. Cormie and wife Yvonne, and Greg Cormie and wife Eileen; one sister, Brenda Cormie Porche and husband Mike all of Lake Charles and numerous nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be, Friday, September 9, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverends Lindsey Burns and Frank Nihart will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Thursday, with a prayer service at 6:00 PM with Reverend Brian Fitkin officiating and continue from 9:00 AM until time of service, Friday, in the funeral home.
