Samuel R Morrison

Samuel R. Morrison, 93, of Westlake, LA passed away on May 14, 2022, in a local hospital surrounded by his loving family. Samuel was born on November 29, 1928, to Levi and Sallie Dawson Morrison in Jackson, LA.

Sam was a member of Bellview Baptist Church in Westlake, LA, American Legion post # 407, Westlake Masonic Lodge # 443 where he served as PWM. Sam was also PWP of OES #228

 Sam proudly served his country in the US Navy.  He was a veteran of the Korean conflict. He was recognized for his service by the Mayors Armed Forces Commission and was KPLC’s Hometown hero in 2019.  Sam retired from City Service Refinery after 32 years. During his tenure, he was President of the Health and Safety Committee for several years. He served on the Westlake Zoning and Water Board. He participated in starting the Westlake Police Reserve Officer program. Sam served as a volunteer fireman and later became the Fire Chief of Westlake. He was instrumental in working with WCCH to add an ambulance department to the fire department. He worked for CPSO as a crossing guard for 20 years. He was past president of Western Heights Elementary Parent’s Teachers Club and participated in American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

 Survivors include two children, Marjorie Renfrow and Mark Morrison and wife Kashonna; 7 grandchildren, Stacie Ardoin, Joel Renfrow, Corey Morrison, Jack Gill, Cammie Gill, Pam Bourque, and Cindy Bradley; 11 great grandchildren; and one brother, Donald Morrison.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Levi and Sallie Morrison; 11 siblings; wife Peggy Jones Morrison; and daughter, Sharon Morrison Baker.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, May 20, 2022, at Bellview Baptist Church in Westlake, LA. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:30 PM with a Masonic tribute at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Bellview Baptist Church in Westlake, LA. Visitation will resume on Friday at the church from 9:00 AM until time of service. Burial will be at Westlake Memorial Cemetery.
