Samuel Sam Reed Maddox

October 14, 1943 — December 22, 2011

Samuel Reed Maddox, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him, passed away on December 22, 2011, surrounded by his family.

Sam was born on October 14, 1943, and raised in Haynesville, LA. He graduated from Haynesville High School in 1961, where he participated in football and track. At Northwestern State College he was a walk-on football player, and graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He was also a member of the Louisiana Army National Guard while at Northwestern, until 1972 when he was Honorably Discharged. Sam began working offshore in the oil and gas industry at Magcobar, and then continued in this field as co-owner of Regan Maddox Enterprises, Inc. As if this didn't keep him busy enough, his love for cooking was proudly displayed as chef and co-owner of the Hickory Hutt in Lake Charles. After tiring of offshore work and wanting to be closer to his family, he opened Comprehensive Windshield Repair. He repaired windshields all over Lake Charles and the surrounding areas, where he also made many, many friends.

Sam was known for his lively sense of humor and zest for life. You could always hear his loud, contagious laugh from afar. Some of his favorite past-times were cooking at the McNeese tailgate parties, going to LSU football games, attending the Wednesday night Auction with his buddies, spending time with his grandkids, and those card playing nights thrown in between. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and hunter. Anywhere he was you could always guarantee he was going to find a way to have a good time.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Callie Rose Maddox; one son, Christopher Reed Maddox and wife Kelli all of Lake Charles; one daughter, Dr. Kimberly Maddox Bonaventure and husband David; three grandchildren, Andrew Tyler Bonaventure, Kate Elizabeth Bonaventure, and Emily Rose Bonaventure all of New Roads; two brothers, Whit Maddox and wife Brenda of Homer, and Larry Maddox and wife Darlene of Carencro. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Reed Maddox, Sr. and Martelle Pixley Maddox.

His funeral will be at 10:00am, Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon George Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm with a Rosary being recited at 6:00pm. Visitation will continue at 8:00am Tuesday until time of services Tuesday in the funeral home.

Special thanks to Drs. Kohler, Bergeron, and Broussard for comforting his family during this difficult time.
