Sandra "Sandy" Gale Domingue

November 7, 1944 — May 22, 2016

Sandra Gale Domingue (known as Sandy by her many friends) was born in Lafayette, Louisiana on November 7, 1944 to Robley and Pearl Domingue.  When she was born, her father was in Europe, fighting with the Allied Forces against Germany.  By the time Mr. Domingue returned home, Sandy was already two years old.    Upon his arrival at the house for the first time, she did not recognize him.  When asked, “where is your daddy”, she ran and grabbed his picture and brought it to her mom!  She would soon grow very close to her father and it was not long before she was joined by additional siblings.  First came Cheryl, then Robley, Jr. (Boo) and, finally, the youngest, Millie.

The family moved to Lake Charles when Sandy was still young and later she would graduate from LaGrange High School.  While at LaGrange she served as the editor for the yearbook and was a member of the National Honor Society.  She was a proud graduate of the class of 1962 and remained close to many of her classmates for the rest of her life.

Sandy was always a “working mom” and was known as a proficient and dedicated secretary. In fact, she earned the distinction of being a “Certified Professional Secretary” (a difficult process that required much study and testing) and she took great pride in her ability to organize files, to utilize shorthand and type ninety words a minute on an old fashioned (non- electric) typewriter.  During this time in her life, Sandy became an active member of Beta Sigma Phi, a woman’s social, cultural and service organization.

She worked at various locations throughout her life, most recently at the Clerk of Court’s Office in Lake Charles.  She loved to ride horses and was an active member of the Westlake Rotary Club.  In 2008 she received the Rotary Club’s Excellence Award.  She also enjoyed volunteering for Father Whitney Miller at the St. Charles Retreat Center in Moss Bluff.

She has two children, Charlotte and Rob McCorquodale and one grandchild, Ethan McCorquodale.   She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church and active in the A.C.T.S. movement for as long as her health allowed.  At the time of her death she was married to James L. Friend.  She is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends; too many in number to mention here, but she loved them all just the same.

There will be visitation at Johnson’s Funeral home on Tuesday May the 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary being hosted by O.L.Q.H. A.C.T.S. members at 6:30 p.m.

Visitation will resume Wednesday May 25th at 9:00 a.m. at Johnson’s Funeral Home and continue until the funeral service begins at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow in Consolata Cemetery.
