Sarah Lou Wilson

June 5, 1923 — January 21, 2016

Sarah Lou McMichael Wilson, 92, a resident of Lake Charles for the past 46 years, passed away early Thursday morning, January 21, 2016, at her home.

 

Mrs. Wilson was born June 5, 1923, to George Philip McMichael and Mary Virginia McMichael. She was raised in Amite, Louisiana. After graduating from Southeastern Louisiana University, she taught in Roanoke, LA for 5 years. After she married, she lived in Roanoke, LA and taught in the Lake Arthur, Roanoke and Welsh schools until she retired after 25 years. She lived in Roanoke until 1970, and then she and her family moved to Lake Charles.

 

She was a member of University United Methodist Church, Jeff Davis Parish Retired Teachers Association, VFW Post 2130, and American Legion Post I. She loved to cook and work in her yard, and to sew for her grandchildren when they were small. She was always a “caregiver”—taking care of friends and family members in their time of need—it never mattered what she had going on, there was always time for her to help someone else.

 

Survived by her 2 children: Nanette W. Chambers and husband Chris and Ned K. Wilson and wife Crystal; 6 grandchildren: Blake (& Bridget) Mudd, Sarah (& Jeff) Bankens, Rachael Chambers, Morgan (& Cade Eastman), Logan, & Chance Wilson; 4 Great-grandchildren: Mycah & Jake Mudd, Kemper Eastman, and Isaac Bankens; one sister-in-law: Norma McMichael from Amite, LA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband John H. Wilson, Jr., and their first-born daughter Mary Virginia Wilson, her father and mother (George and Mary McMichael), 2 sisters (Mary McMichael and Ora Belle Compton), 2 brothers (Philip and Robert McMichael).

 

Pallbearers will be: Ned Wilson, Chris Chambers, Blake Mudd, Logan Wilson, Chance Wilson, and Jeff Bankens.

 

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, LA with Rev. Katie McKay Simpson officiating. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in Welsh. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Friday, January 22 and from 9-1pm on Saturday.
