Here I am Lord.

Sarah leaves behind the job she loves most, helping people. She was always ready to take care of every need. She will always be remembered for helping others, which was the joy of her life.

Sarah was born in Allen Parish, Mittie, LA to Thomas and Tina Reeves Carlisle. She was a resident of Calcasieu Parish, Lake Charles, LA since the 1940’s. Sarah married Charles Newcomer, Sr. in 1943, and they had four children together. When her children grew older, Sarah went to work for the bank, and worked for Louisiana Savings for 25 years.

Sarah reached out to help others, even at an early age. When she was 19, in California where her husband was stationed during World War II, the USO honored her for welcoming new service member’s mothers and wives to the area and finding their families places to live.

The Newcomers were recognized for their community service, especially for their work with handicapped Boy Scouts, and were named family of the year.

Sarah was President of Boy Scout Troop 122 Parent’s Auxiliary and worked many years with boy scouts and campfire girls with her children and others.

An active member for many years, Sarah acted as President of the Calcasieu Parish Cow Belles/Cattlewomen.

Sarah also served as President of the United Methodist Women and held many other offices with the church. Sarah was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and served there for many years.

Sarah and her husband Charles were active members of the Wesley foundation, with Sarah even serving on the Board.

Preceded in death by her mother and father, her sister, Joyce C. Sigler and her brother, Shelby Carlisle, and her son Shelby Wayne Newcomer.

Her pride and joy was her family, she was so proud that all four of her grandchildren were college graduates.

Sarah is survived by her three children; Charles Newcomer, Jr. and his wife Jackie Montelaro, and Glen Newcomer of Sulphur, LA and Sharon Newcomer Semmes and her husband Charles of Deer Park, TX.

The pride of her life was her grandchildren; Candiace Newcomer Fontenot and her husband James, Todd Newcomer, Scott Semmes and his wife Beverlea, Kristen Semmes Litchfield and her husband Chris.
