Scott Anthony Dugas

Scott Anthony Dugas, a lifelong Sulphur resident, lost his battle with cancer on the morning of Wednesday, June 23, 2021. He was 58 years old.

Scott was born on October 1, 1962, the fifth of the six children of Melvin and Snooks Dugas. He was a dedicated cowboy, loving nothing more than riding through the pastures tending his cattle. His quick wit and ready jokes always made him the life of the party everywhere he went. He loved people, team roping, calf roping, dancing, and reading, but his favorite pastime was watching his daughter run barrels at high school rodeos. His family was his priority.

Scott graduated from Sulphur High School as a member of the class of 1980. He graduated from McNeese State University in 1985 with a degree in General Agriculture. He was employed as a dispatcher for Lard Oil Company and as a Cattleman. He was a member of the LA Cattlemen’s Association and a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vinton.

Those left behind to cherish Scott’s memory include his wife of 33 years Stephanie Hebert Dugas and his daughter Morgan Dugas, both of Sulphur. He is also survived by his mother Alzina “Snooks” Dugas of Sulphur and his four sisters and their husbands: Suzanne and Robert Little of Ponchatoula, Sallye and Hubert Coco and Shirley and Tony Leger of Sulphur, and Shari and Jeff Richard of Grand Chenier, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Scott was preceded in death by his father Melvin Dugas, his brother Sam Patrick Dugas, his paternal grandparents, John Avis and Evelyn Sallier Dugas, and his maternal grandparents Oren and Susie Little Strahan.

Carrying Scott to his final resting place will be pallbearers Randy Kotara, Jeff Richard, Keith Landry, Jeremy Istre, Kellen Leger, Steven Coco, Tony Leger, Joseph Little, and Alan Coco.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 25, from 5:00 until 9:00 PM at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home in Sulphur with a rosary at 6:30 PM.  Visitation will resume on Saturday, June 26, from 8:00 until 11:00 AM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Luke Krzanowski, M.S. and Fr. Carlos Garcia on Saturday, June 26, at 11:30 AM at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Carlyss. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery, Carlyss.

The family would like to thank St. Joseph Hospice, Dr. Craig Greenman, Dr. Michael Broussard, and the second floor oncology nurses at Memorial Hospital for their kindness, devotion, and care.
