Selidia Ryan

September 5, 1922 — February 26, 2014

On the morning of February 26, 2014, GOD came to Selidia and said, "It is time to go Home and leave this life of pain and suffering. It's time to go to a place of eternal peace and rest. Your work here is done, you have fought a good fight." Selidia was born on September 5, 1922 to the union of Joseph Victorian, Sr and Enola Willis, in Basile, Louisiana. Selidia met and later married Henry E. Ryan on October 27, 1946. To this union 4 children were born. Nancy Ryan, Milton Ryan, of Lake Charles, La. Linda Ryan Rogers (Thomas) of Beaumont, TX and Lilly Ryan Vincent of Lake Charles, La. She began working at the Lake Charles Country Club as a cook and did so until the age of 83. She was known as Mama Ryan to the entire staff. She was a proud founding member of St. Martin's Chapel. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, the Altar Society, and the church choir, until her health prevented her from doing so. She was at Mass, faithfully, every Sunday. One of Selidia's favorite things was playing bingo. She loved her Zydeco music. Selidia's great personality, her joking but firm nature, her dedication to her family and friends made her loved by many. Family was the most important thing to her. Selidia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sisters, Eta Wilson, Janita Hardy, Marceline Ardoin, Alverdia Gradney, and Lou Bertha Victorian. She leaves to cherish her memory, her 4 children. One brother, Joseph "Joe Boy" Victorian (Mary) of Basile, La,; one sister Mary Lou Ceaser of Elton, La.; Sister-in-Law, Carrie Pearl Jones. 5 grandchildren, Joyce Ryan of Lake Charles, La,; Shawn Kelly (Tyrone) of Suwanee, Ga; Frank Paul (Alejandra) of Houston, TX; Jennifer Ryan of Lake Charles and Justin Vincent (Fiancée Angie) of Baton Rouge, La. 4 Great grandchildren Joseph Ryan and Joshua Ryan of Lake Charles, La; Ethan Kelly of Suwanee, Ga and Emma Paul of Houston, TX. 5 step grandchildren. A host of wonderful nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Martin DePorres Catholic Church. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home from 8:30 AM until 10:45 AM with a Rosary at 9:30 AM. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate.
