Sgt. Lorne Stanford "Tonky" Mott

December 22, 1972 — May 5, 2017

Sergeant Lorne Stanford “Tonky” Mott, 44, of Ragley passed away at 10:40 PM on Friday, May 5, 2017 in the comfort of his home.

Sergeant Mott was born on December 22, 1972 in Pasadena, TX. He moved to Lake Charles with his family until moving back to Texas and graduating from Tomball High School where he was a star athlete in football. Sergeant Mott returned to this area in the early 1990’s where he resided in Moss Bluff before moving to Ragley earlier this year. He began his career as a police officer in Merryville and then became a deputy for Cameron Parish. For the past 17 years he was a devoted deputy for Calcasieu Parish. Sergeant Mott put his heart and soul into his job and was the backbone for numerous other deputies, always there when his fellow deputies needed him. He was a proud recipient of the Lifesaving Award.

Along with his solid work character, he was also a good friend to everyone as well as a dedicated family man. He cherished his time spent with his family and especially adored his grandson.

Sergeant Mott will be remembered for his sense of humor, always making others laugh and was the “problem solver” to family and friends. He enjoyed cooking, hunting, and fishing and was an avid fan of LSU and the Saints.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Lee Cheryl Mott of Ragley; three children, Lauren Leigh Mott (Steven Eder) of Deridder, Kelly Lorraine Mott (Ryan Jones) of Ragley, and Ty Stanford Mott of Ragley; his sidekick, his grandson, Easton Ty Mott of Ragley; his parents, Reba and Stanford Mott of Lake Charles; two sisters, Laura Mott Alcaraz (Frank) of Welsh and Lorraine Mott Murphy (Kit) of Magnolia, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Allen “Bubba” Mott; maternal grandparents, Sadie and Lawrence Cady; and paternal grandparents, Valentine and Ruby Mott.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 11, 2017 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Gene Cormier will officiate. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Thursday from 8:00 AM until the start of the services.
