Shane Simpkins

Christopher Shane Simpkins, 48, of Longville, LA, passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021 in a local hospital.

Born September 23, 1972 in Selma, AL, Shane was a 1990 graduate of Walker High School and a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, with a degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Spanish.  He served his country for four years in the U.S. National Guard as Military Police.  Shane worked with the U.S. Border Patrol for twenty-four years, spending most of those as an agent assigned to the Lake Charles Border Patrol Station and the past few years assigned to prosecutions.  Shane lived ten years in Kingsville, TX, ten years in Moss Bluff, LA and the past four years in Longville, LA.  During his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Shane was a member of First Baptist Church of Moss Bluff and led a sterling Christian life.  He was always active with his daughter’s activities, whether it was coaching soccer and softball or coaching from the stands.  Shane also enjoyed raising his chickens and spending time outdoors.  He will always be remembered as a wonderful and loving husband, father, son, and brother.

Shane is survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Sofia Melendez Simpkins; daughter, Samantha Karina Simpkins, both of Longville, LA; father, George James “Jimmy” Simpkins and wife Nancy of Thomasville, AL; mother, Jackie Green Coggin and husband John of Center Point, AL; brothers, David Simpkins of Birmingham, AL and Cody Simpkins and wife Kayla of Mobile, AL grandfather, John G. “Jack” Green, of Center Point, AL; in-laws, Paulo and Felipa Melendez of Edinburg, TX; nieces, Nova and Ellie Simpkins; best friends, Jeff Bennett and Carol Davis; and numerous other close friends; along with his brothers and sisters with U.S.  Border Patrol.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George Simpkins, III, LaVon Simpkins, and Mary Edna “Granny” Green.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 19, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Moss Bluff.  Reverend Bill Saxby will officiate.  Burial will follow in New Ritchie Cemetery in Moss Bluff.  Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Monday at the church from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
