Shannon J. Fuselier, Sr., 82, of Lake Charles passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023 in Ferriday, LA unexpectedly.
Mr. Fuselier was born on October 11, 1941 in Basile. In 1951, at the age of 10, he moved with his family to Lake Charles where he was a 1959 graduate of Marion High School. He served his country for 2 years in the US Army. Upon being honorably discharged, he began his career with Conoco and retired as a field superintendent after 33 years of service. During his retirement he remodeled homes and did carpentry work along with a friend of his. He was a devout Catholic, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose wisdom and guidance will be missed.
Mr. Fuselier was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He attended and volunteered for multiple retreats in Prairie Ronde and also completed the Cursillo Retreat. Mr. Fuselier was instrumental in the development of Camp Karol Retreat Center at Bear Island in Moss Bluff. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening and growing fruit trees.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 59 years, Mona Moreau Fuselier of Lake Charles; children, Shannon J. “Johnny” Fuselier, Jr. (Lisa) of Orange, TX, Kelly Fuselier Davis (Jeffrey) of Lake Charles, and Michael D. “Denny” Fuselier (Melanie) of Sulphur; siblings, Rohelier Fuselier (Rena) of Moss Bluff and Conrad Fuselier (Cheryl) of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Alexia “Lexie” Davis, Nikki Davis Woodcock (Matthew), Chad Quinn Davis (Alexandra), Kourtlyn Marie Fuselier, Christian Charles Fuselier and Hunter Michael Fuselier. Great grandchildren, Ayden M. Davis, McKinlie J. Smith, Kori M. Guidry, Casey J. Davis, and Oakley N. Woodcock, Finn M. Woodcock, Parker P. Woodcock and Cash J. Woodcock; an aunt, Bertha Morien (Woodrow) of Ville Platte; brother in law, Jerry Moreau, Sr. of Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lelma and Sheb Fuselier.
A funeral mass will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, December 15, 2023 in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Father Randy Moreau, a family member, will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Cursillo rosary being held at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday from 10:00 AM until leaving for the church at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Karol Catholic Youth Camp, or to the building fund at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, immaculateconceptioncathedral.com/donations.
