Sheffield Lawrence Royer, 84, went to be with the Lord on Friday October 1, 2015. Sheffield was a longshoreman for 30 years and a faithful member of Grand Lake Faith Temple where he was the song leader for 37 years. He also served as music leader at Southside Tabernacle for 16 years. Sheffield loved the Lord and reading his bible. His love of hunting and fishing was preceded only by his love of God, family and friends. Sheffield was a man of character and integrity. He lived as an example of what a man should be, inspiring those around him. A man of inner strength, loving kindness, compassionate and attentive to all he loved, selfless in his life and committed to the Lord. The legacy that he leaves behind are his loving and caring wife for 65 years, Bobby Jean Holland; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Rodney Sheffield and Shelly Walker Royer of Spring, Texas; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Mark DeBarge of Sulphur, Louisiana; 1 brother and sister-in-law, Donald Dean and Evelyn Royer of Grand Lake, Louisiana; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Linda Faye and Bonner La Fleur of Maplewood, Louisiana; 3 grandchildren and 1 grandson-in-law, Holly Arabie, Shauncey and Scott Stelly, Kelsey Swire; 7 great grandchildren, Jaci, Austin, Darien, Brennen, Gavin, Gage and Brooklyn; 2 step grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren. Sheffield was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Nellie Poole Royer; grandson, Heath Royer; 1 sister, Rosie Harris. Funeral services will be conducted, 3 PM Sunday October 4, 2015 at Grand Lake Faith Temple with Bro. Andrew Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Big Lake Community Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Johnson Funeral Home Saturday October 3, 2015 from 4-8 PM.Visitation on Sunday will be from 2 PM till time of service at the church.
