Shelby Lee Fruge

March 4, 1960 — May 11, 2022

Shelby Lee Fruge, 62, of Lake Charles passed away at 9:33 AM on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 in a local hospice facility.

Mr. Fruge was born on March 4, 1960 in Sulphur and was raised in Lake Charles where he was a graduate of LaGrange High School.  He resided in Virginia, where he met his future bride, from 1984 until returning to Lake Charles in 1990.  Mr. Fruge was a Postmaster for many years in the Vinton and Starks areas.  He was a member of St. Luke Simpson United Methodist Church.

He took pleasure in bowling with the Knights of Columbus, playing softball, and belonging to a pool league.  Mr. Fruge especially enjoyed fishing and spending time at his camp in Moss Bluff.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 35 years, Deanna Fruge of Lake Charles; children, Brandon Fruge (Aungelina) and Bethany Basden (Logan) all of Lake Charles; siblings, Mark Fruge (Dianne) of Lake Charles, Wanda Pearson (Eddie) of Liberty, TX, and Oline Slaven (Darryl) of Huntsville, TX; and one grandson, William Alan Basden. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernella and Atlas Fruge and a brother, Robert Mitchell Fruge.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 16, 2022 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel.  Dr. John Robert Black will officiate.  Inurnment will follow in Consolata Cemetery.  A gathering will begin on Sunday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and will continue on Monday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
