Shelia Ann Nelson

March 25, 1947 — February 23, 2018

 
Shelia Ann Lange Nelson, 70, of Lake Charles, passed away in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family on Friday February 23, 2018 following an extended illness Shelia was born on March 25, 1947, to Stanley M Lange Jr and Emily Heisser Lange.  She was a native of Madisonville LA and a long-time resident of Lake Charles. She was a graduate of St. Scholastica Academy and McNeese State University. She worked for the Calcasieu Parish Sherriff’s Department and retired from the McMillian Allstate Insurance Agency. Shelia was active in her community, being a member of the Catholic Daughters of St. Margaret Catholic Church, a parishioner of St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church, the Women’s Commission of SWLA, and Twelfth Night Revelers.

 
Shelia loved to celebrate Christmas and Mardi Gras and was an avid reader.  She was an excellent cook and to her grandchildren, no one could cook like Grannie.

 
She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memories, her beloved husband of 51 years, Paul Donald Nelson whom she married on November 5, 1966 ; three daughters, Melisa Adrian (Mitchell) and Stacie Nelson, both of Lake Charles; and Stephanie McCormick (Michael) of Tupelo, MS; two sons, Vinton Nelson and Brent Nelson (Carrie), both of Lake Charles; three sisters, Barbara LeFrere of Slidell, LA; Kathy Fabre (Pierre) of Covington, LA; Deionne Crochet (Bernard) of Brusly, LA; four brothers, Jerry Lange, Sr. (Mary) of Madisonville, LA; Harry Lange (Charlotte)of Duluth, GA; Bryant (Nicky) Lange, Sr. (Donna) of Riverdale, GA; and Farrell Lange, of Madisonville, LA; a sister-in-law, Leslie Lange of New Orleans, LA; seven grandchildren; Travis McMillian, Cade and Allie McCormick and Gavin, Kaylee, Mercedes and Brent Nelson along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

 
Proceeding Shelia in death are her parents, Stanley M. and Emily Heisser Lange; and a brother, Desmond Lange, Sr.

 
The family would like to give a special thanks and appreciation to MD Anderson Cancer Center staff and medical personnel, Dr Marina Konopleva, Lake Charles Memorial Hospital staff and medical personnel, Drs. Ron Lewis and Michael Broussard, Lake Charles Memorial Home Health, All About You Home Health Care and Harbor Hospice for the excellent care and concern they exhibited. The family would also like to thank her caregiver, Rolanda Lewis, who was a godsend to the family. We appreciate the many prayers for Shelia’s healing and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, www.mdanderson.org

Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home Saturday, March 3. 2018, beginning at 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St Henry’s Catholic Church at 11:00 AM The Rev. Tim Goodly will officiate.  Entombment will follow the Mass at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
