Sherman Lee McGee, 76, of Lake Charles died at 11:30 AM Monday, January 5, 2015 in his residence with his loving family at his side. Sherman was a life-long resident of Lake Charles. He was born on November 14, 1938 to the parents of Isabella and Alexi McGee here in Lake Charles. Sherman was a 1957 graduate of LaGrange Senior High School. After graduation, Sherman served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964 on the Navy war ship the USS Bushwell. He was stationed in Guam, San Juan Puerto Rico, and Key West, Florida. Sherman worked for Sowela from 1970 until he retired in 2003. He was a certified instructor, teaching, Air Conditioning, Auto Paint and Body, and Auto Mechanics. He was past president of the local coin collection club. He loved spending time with his family, working on cars, gardening, fishing, and reading. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Doris Machado McGee of Lake Charles, LA, one daughter, Michelle Darlene McGee Chavez and husband Mark of Lake Charles, LA, three sisters, Gladys Lou Fontenot and husband Dallas of Lacassine, LA, Anna Lee Wells and husband Herbert Wayne of Biloxi, MS, and Elizabeth Martindale and husband Marty of Carlyss, LA, two uncles, Earl Vidrine and wife Elsa of Cypress, TX and Lancin Vidrine and wife Sally of Lake Charles, LA, three grandchildren, Lindsey Nichole Augustine and husband Logan of Lake Charles, LA, Ryan Lee Fontenot and his wife Morgan Vinson Fontenot of Lake Charles, LA and Zachary Allen Fontenot of New Orleans, LA, 7 step grandchildren, Ryan, Derek, Conner, Reid, Collin, Cole and Tessa Chavez, 15 great grandchildren. Sherman is preceded in death by his parents, Isabella and Alexi Mcgee, one son, Darrell Paul McGee, and one infant daughter, Kathryn Ann McGee Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 2:30 PM at Ardoin's Cove Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral home. Visitation will begin on Friday at 11:00 AM until 1:30 PM in the funeral home.
