Sherria C. Carter

December 25, 1933 — February 15, 2011

Sherria Clarice Carter, 77, of Lake Charles passed away at 5:55 AM on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at a local care center.


Mrs. Carter was born in Pueblo, CO and spent most of her life in Texas before moving to Lake Charles in 1999. She was a veteran, having served in the United States Air Force, stationed in Florida. After her honorary discharge, she enjoyed her work for a security firm. A self-taught gourmet cook, she took pleasure in sharing her creations with family. She loved flowers and plants, and grew some of her own herbs. Mrs. Carter was of the Baptist faith.


She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Albert J. Carter; step children, Dr. Jay Carter and wife Debbie and Melody Jackson and husband Dana; six grandchildren, Chris Jackson, Jill Deason, Ashley Townsend, and Savannah, Aaron, and Quinton Carter; five great grandchildren; and two nieces, Janice Jordan of Huntsville, TX and Frances Mayfield of Kingsbury, TX.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Rex and Gladys Williams.


A memorial service will be held at 6:30 PM on Thursday, February 17, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Weldon Bares will officiate. Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home with burial being held privately at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Thursday at 4:00 PM and will continue until the start of the service.
