Sherry "Big Red" Young

Sherry Ann “Big Red” Young, 71, of Sulphur, LA, passed away on December 12, 2022 in a local care facility.

Ms. Young was born April 29, 1951 in Wiesbaden, Germany and lived most of her life in the Lake Charles / Sulphur areas.  During her younger years, she worked as a LPN.  She loved to sing karaoke, paint, bake and decorate cakes, play Bingo, and color in adult coloring books later in her life, but her true passion in life has always been for her children, and especially her grandchildren.  She had a big heart and always enjoyed entertaining and helping at the local nursing homes.  She was loved and will be missed dearly.

Ms. Young is survived by her son, Lavern Edward Smith (Liana) of Shreveport, LA; daughters, Antoinette Bando (Paul) of Orange, TX, Tonya Gassaway of Iowa, LA, Anissa Lathrom (Howard) of Leesville, LA and Michelle Murphy of Pineville, LA; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; along with numerous other extended family members and friends that she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lavern Lowe and Antoinette Babcock (Bill); brothers, Richard Lowe, Marvin Lowe, Mike Lowe, and Rick Lowe; and stepbrother, Gary Babcock.

Her cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.  The family will have a gathering to celebrate her life at a later date.
