Shirley Harst

January 19, 1934 — February 25, 2018

Shirley Arvilla Marcantel Harst, 84, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 8:55 PM on Sunday, February 25, 2018 in a local hospital.

 

Mrs. Harst was born January 19, 1934 in Kinder, LA, where she raised her family along with her husband of fifty-three years, Walter. She worked for many years at Cash and Carry in Kinder. She moved to Lake Charles after her husband’s death in 2009 to be near her family, where she became a member of Christian World. Mrs. Harst enjoyed sewing for her children, crocheting, and working outdoors in her flower gardens. She was very involved with her grandchildren’s activities. She will be remembered as a devoted daughter, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and caregiver to many family members. She will be greatly missed.

 

Mrs. Harst is survived by her children, Carolyn Marcantel and husband Jerry of Lake Charles, Marilyn Puckett and husband Donald of Lake Charles, Debbie Harst of Lake Charles, and Raymond Harst and wife Lesley of Lafayette; sisters, Maxine Wallace and husband John and Linda Lormand and husband Edgar, all of Kinder, LA; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Harst; and parents, John Allen and Vera Fossett Marcantel.

 

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Christian World. Pastor Jerry Snider will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Oaks Cemetery in Kinder, LA. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.

 

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and granddaughter’s spouses.
