Shirley J. Wisley Perkins, age 83, passed away November 15, 2014, surrounded by her husband and family. Services will be held at Johnson Funeral Home, Lake Charles on Tuesday November 18, 2014 at 3:00 pm. Visitation will be held at Johnson's on Monday, November 17, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 pm, and Tuesday November 18, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Shirley was a member of St. Luke Simpson Methodist Church of Lake Charles. Shirley was retired from the Lake Charles American Press, and was also involved with numerous local organizations. She was a member of the first Women's Commission of Southwest Louisiana, the Women's Guild of the United Methodist Church of Albion, MI, and volunteered with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Lake Charles, Calcasieu Women's Shelter, and Calcasieu Community Clinic of Lake Charles. Shirley was active in several social organizations. She was a member of the Lake Charles Golf and Country Club, where she and husband, Buddy Perkins, were twice Couples Golf Tournament champions, and Shirley was winner of the Senior Ladies Championship Golf Tournament. She also served as President of the Women's Association of Lake Charles Country Club. She was also an active member of the Lake Charles Duplicate Bridge Club. She was a member of the Krewe of Noblesse, reigning as Duchess on Court in 1991. She served as a member of the Board for Mardi Gras, Inc., for three years. Survivors include her husband, W. L. (Buddy) Perkins, daughter Cheryl Clancy of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, sisters Mary Goldhagan of Aurora, IL, Barbara Mixon of Pearland, TX, Ramona Philpot of Vandalia, IL, and Betty Coale of Lake Charles; step-children Travis Perkins, Jeffrie Duberville, and Mitch Perkins of Sulphur, and Lacie Perkins of Longville; she is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Jesse and Pluma Switzer of Vandalia, IL and her son, Robert Wisley of Albion, Michigan.
