Shirley Jean Ginbey Hoffpauir

Shirley Ginbey Hoffpauir, 81, of Lake Charles, LA died at 2:07 PM on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at Rapides Medical Center in Alexandria, LA


Mrs. Hoffpauir was born June 28, 1930 in Garnett, KS and was a graduate of Sulphur High School. She also graduated from SOWELA Technical College with her degree in bookkeeping. She started her career at Ed Taussig Ford, which included bookkeeping at other automotive dealerships. She also worked at The Flower Shop, and as the office manager / bookkeeper for Jones, Tete, Nolan, Hanchey, Swift, and Spears for twelve years before retiring in 1989.


Mrs. Hoffpauir was a member of St. Luke-Simpson United Methodist Church where she was very active in United Methodist Women. Throughout her life, she not only served as treasurer of her own church, but also for the UMW and the Louisiana Methodist Conference; she was providing her bookkeeping talents for the Retired Ministers' Homes at the time of her death. She also served eight years on the CFA, four years on the Board of Pensions in the Louisiana Methodist Conference, and served on the board that founded the Louisiana Methodist Conference Center. Mrs. Hoffpauir was a former member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Bayou Promenaders Square Dancers and the Loafers Loaferettes Bowling League (150 Average). She enjoyed golfing (36 Handicap), sewing, crocheting, and cooking. She was also a strong competitor in the Senior Games for a number of years.


Mrs. Hoffpauir is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Willis Leo Hoffpauir, Sr. of Lake Charles; son, Willis L. Hoffpauir, Jr. of Huntsville, AL; nephews, Damon Ginbey, Leland A. Ginbey, Kenneth Wayne Woods and Ray Woods; and nieces, Debby Ginbey and Marion Retzlaff.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Mabel Ginbey; brothers, Harold Ginbey, Earl Ginbey, Wilber Ginbey, and Don Ginbey; and sisters, Dorothy Woods and Margaret Jordan.


Her funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at St. Luke-Simpson United Methodist Church. Reverend Henry Bowdon will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and continue on Saturday at the church from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.


Pallbearers for the service are Travis Hoffpauir, David Lynn Hoffpauir, Frank Streva, David Mullet, Jarvis Morgan, and J.B. Boulet. Honorary pallbearers are Sondra Mullet, Betty Verret, and Melba Stine.
