Shirley Landry Laughlin

December 30, 1946 — March 5, 2024

Shirley Ann Landry Laughlin, 77, of Lake Charles, passed away on March 5, 2024. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Family was the most important thing to her. She will be missed by so many.

Shirley was born on December 30, 1946 to Dallas Paul Landry and Mildred Prudhomme Landry in Lake Charles. After she graduated from LaGrange High School at the age of 17 she had to wait until she was 18 to go to work at BellSouth Telephone Company. Shirley began her career as a telephone operator and ended it in the engineering department.

She married Dale Laughlin and went on to have two children, Chad and Kelly.

In 2002, Shirley retired after 37 years of service to the telephone company and spent time volunteering with the Telephone Pioneers of America, playing dominoes, and PO KE NO and other card games with her friends. She also enjoyed going to lunch with the ladies and babysitting her granddaughter.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Vince Landry. She is survived by her son, Chad Laughlin and his wife Tammi and son Kelly Laughlin; grandchildren, Devin Laughlin, Colin Laughlin and his wife Christine, Rylee Laughlin and Tad Kennedy and his wife, Kim; great grandchildren, Corine, Corbin, Cason, and Connor; sisters, Bonnie Verkruyse, Paula Landry, Terry Landry; brother Mark Landry and his wife, Lisa and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family of the heart.

Shirley’s wishes were to be cremated and her ashes to be spread in Hawaii. A gathering of family and friends will be at a later date.
