Shirley May Simmons

Shirley Burks Simmons passed away on March 21, 2017.

She went home to be with the Lord and was reunited with her husband, son, and other family members who had gone before her. Shirley was 81, a native of Iowa, LA.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Simmons; her son, Bradley Simmons; her grandson, Matthew Courville; her great granddaughter, Khristen Abshire; and siblings Dorothy Richmond, Ed Gidney, and Dicie Burks. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Karen Fontenot; her brothers, Max Burks, Bill Gidney and wife Edna; sister Peggy Garrison; granddaughters Kari Wall and husband Jared of Baton Rouge, LA, Leslie Thompson and Kelly Doerr and husband Robert of Independence, MO; and grandsons Joshua Courville of Kinder, LA, Bradley Duplantis and wife Tracy and Ricky Duplantis of Independence, MO; and Carter Fontenot and wife Kylie of Houma, LA.

She is also survived by eight great grandchildren and many other family members and life-long friends. Along with her husband, Shirley owned Park-N-Shop Grocery in Lake Charles and later 383 Country Mart in Iowa, LA.

Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday, March 24 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, March 25 from 9:00 am until the service at 2:00 pm. Burial to follow in Old Ritchie Cemetery in Moss Bluff, LA.
