Shirley Ann Nunez

June 20, 1944 — February 12, 2025

Shirley Ann Nunez, 80, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at her home in Sweetlake, LA. She was born on June 20, 1944 in Creole, LA to Wilton J. Young and Annocide Primeaux Young.

Shirley lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to her family. She was known for her kindness and compassion. She spent much of her life serving her community as a volunteer, mentor, advocate, and small business owner. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, fishing, crafting, and collecting. Tea sets were her favorite. Above all, her greatest joy was being "Maw Maw."

She will be remembered for her kindness and commitment to her family and the countless moments of joy she brought into our lives. She will be deeply missed but forever loved.

Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of nearly 63 years, Allen Brent Nunez; her son, Jason Brent Nunez (Reanie); her grandchildren, Chelsie Head (Aaron), and Emily Whitfield (Aaron), and Rylee Nunez; her great granddaughter, Amelia Anne Head.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Charles Young, Johnny Young, Buck Young, and Cathy Young.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, February 15, 2025 in St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 5495 Elliot Rd. Msgr. James Gaddy will serve as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on the evening of Friday, February 14 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, 4321 Lake St., and will continue until 8:00 PM, with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Saturday in the funeral home at 10:00 AM, continuing until leaving in procession to the church at 11:30 AM.

Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Ogea, Jeremy Young, Verus Young, George Nunez, Dennis Nunez, and Logan Lebleu.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Ronald Lewis, her nurse, Ramona and her nurse practitioner, Amanda Burnett, and to St. Joseph Hospice nurses, Cassandra Jones, and Erica Doucett for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Mary of the Lake Building Fund.
