Shirley Wynne Tarver was born June 22, 1935 in Texas to Thomas and Bobbie Littleton Wynne and started her family reunion in Heaven on March 20, 2018.
Shirley grew up in east Texas surrounded by lots of loving family. An early memory is the ringing of all the church bells and everyone celebrating the end of WWII.
She met and married Edward (Bo) Tarver and they traveled around before settling in Lake Charles, LA in the 60’s. She worked her way up in the baby department of Muller’s Department Store.
Shirley loved reading and researching topics. She was a “health nut” before it was popular, sneaking wheat germ into her children’s cookies. She enjoyed cooking for her family, especially during the holidays. Being with her family and talking with people was something she truly enjoyed. She was a faithful member and worker of The Friends of the Library and will be missed. She was thoughtful, generous and kind to others, especially if she felt they were forgotten by most. She was a loving and doting grandmother and great-grandmother, getting down to their level to play. The most important part of her life was praying for her family and she was happy to know that they loved the Lord.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Brenda (Rick) Credeur and her sons Rick (Margie) Tarver and Tommy (Cynthia) Tarver along with StarlyAnn “Vicki” (James) Anderson and Dwight (Bert) Barrow. She will also be greatly missed by her six grandchildren: Amy (Bucky) Farque, Patrick Credeur, Nick Tarver, Aaron Tarver, Christine Tarver, and Abby Tarver along with her great-grandchildren: Brinley, Bronson, AnnaBrooke, Aaron and Journey Farque, Jacie Tarver and Dex Tarver. She is also survived by her beloved sister Natha Freeman of Mineola, TX and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Shirley attended Trinity Baptist Church whenever possible.
Thank you to all who reached out to her when she returned to Lake Charles ten years ago from Mt. Pleasant, TX.
There will be a private family gathering at a later date. Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church Library, Friends of the Library or to the charity of your choice.
