Shon Castillo, Jr., 79, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 5:25 PM on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 in his residence. Mr. Castillo was born September 18, 1935 in Lake Charles, LA and graduated from Lake Charles High School. He served his country for two years in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1956 and then graduated in 1961 from McNeese State University with his Bachelor of Science. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Army, where he retired after eighteen years of service as a Major. Mr. Castillo later began a sixteen year career at Conoco as an operator, where he retired in 1997. He was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where he served as a lector and greeter and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Throughout the years with the Knights of Columbus, he served as Grand Knight of OLQH Council #4562 and was Faithful Navigator and Scribe for the Louisiana District of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the VFW Post #2130 and the National VFW Post in Kansas City and the American Legion Post #1. Mr. Castillo volunteered as tuter at the Regina Caeli Center and was the Conoco Volunteer of the year, winning a $500 donation for the Regina Center. He served as a Boy Scout leader at Fort McPherson and would take boys on a 100 mile trail in the Smoky Mountains and later served as a Boy Scout Webelo at OLQH Troop #107, taking them on a 100 mile trail at Philmon Scout Ranch. Mr. Castillo also served as President of the St. Louis High School Athletic Association and co-chaired with Beverly the St. Louis Super Bingo Fund Raiser. He took a mission trip to Nicaragua with Father Torres, would sit with Msgn DeBlanc during his illness, and was associated with Christ the King Procession. He was also a board member for the local Parkinson Foundation and was a member of the Serra Club of Lake Charles. He enjoyed volunteering his time at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital and for Hospice. Mr. Castillo is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Beverly Castillo; sons, Peter Shon Castillo and wife Wenda of Denver, CO, Louis Dominic Castillo of Dillon, CO, Philip Eugene Castillo and wife Christine of Metairie, LA, and Martin Daniel Castillo and wife Brittany of Lake Charles; step-brothers, Earl Quarles of lake Charles, Gerald Quarles of Lake Charles, Lloyd Quarles of California and Ronald Quarles, of Lake Charles; sister, Virginia Panuato of Baytown, TX; step-sisters, Rosemary Smith of Lake Charles and Gladys Fortsch of Athens, TN; and grandchildren, Hannah Faye Castillo, Isaac Martin Castillo, Ethan Shon Castillo, Theodore Daniel Castillo and George August Castillo. He was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Castillo; sisters, Marguerite Corbello and Beatrice Painter; and step-sister, Josephine Schapker. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 21, 2015 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday at the funeral home from 8:00 AM until 10:40 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Parkinson Foundation, P.O.
