Staff Sgt. Michael J. Thomas, Sr.

Staff Sgt. Michael Joseph Thomas, Sr. received his wings on Monday, September 14, 2020.

Honoring his life, Michael was born in Prichard, AL on November 17, 1978 to Ethel Mae Thomas and Harold Thomas into a tight knit family. He was raised in Prichard, AL, where everyone grew up together and looked out for each other. He graduated from Mattie T. Blount in 1996. He went on to join the U.S. Army on October 22, 1998, where he served his country for almost twenty years, fighting in Iraqi Freedom and ending his journey as a recruiter. Staff Sgt. Thomas was a very generous and kind spirit. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, but his true passion in life was for his family. He will be remembered as a loving and wonder husband, father, brother, son, friend, and soldier. He was also a comedian and jokester and will be missed dearly.

Staff Sgt. Thomas is survived by his wife of twenty years, Charlene Thomas; son, Michael Thomas, Jr.; daughter, My’asia Thomas; parents, Ethel Mae and Harold Thomas; sisters, Sonya Thomas and Sonja Thomas; brothers, Kalvin Moore and wife Lisa, Ronnie Moore and wife Renee, Harold Thomas, Willie Thomas and wife Jessica, and Clifton Thomas, and a host of good friends, cousins and other family members.

His funeral service will be held at 9:00 AM on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until the service.

Pallbearers will be his co-workers and friends, SFC Michael Hill, SFC James Kelly, SSG Joshua Reaves, SSG Remy VanHoecke, SSG Michael Thigpen, SSG Colton Pickering, SGT Aaron Shoffner.
