Starks Johnson

July 17, 1925 — April 9, 2015

Starks Johnson, 89, of Big Lake, LA died April 9, 2015 in his residence surrounded by his loving family. Starks was born on July 17, 1925 in Bethel, LA to Elza and Harriet Johnson. Mr. Starks was a resident of Big Lake, LA for 35 years. He was raised in Vernon Parish. He enjoyed studying Hebrew language. He loved god, family, and friends. Mr. Starks enjoyed playing stringed instruments and collecting guns and coins. He was a very friendly and outgoing man who never met a stranger. Mr. Starks proudly served his country as a Marine during WWII serving time in the South Pacific. He joined the Marine Corps at the young age of seventeen. He was the last surviving sibling of his family of ten. He retired with a Panamanian Unlimited Masters License and worked service tours in India and Africa. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Lorraine Choate Johnson; six children, Cleodale Primeaux of Kinder, LA, Daniel Johnson and wife Theresa of Lake Charles, LA, Cheryl Reese of Fenton, LA, Ronald Johnson and wife Mary of Grand Lake, LA, Gerald Johnson and wife Tammy of Grand Lake, LA, and John William Johnson and wife Donna of Lake Charles, LA; nine grandchildren, Melissa Guthrie, Elizabeth Robinson, Christian Knight, Chad Webster Kelley, Jenny Lynn Primeaux, Travis Cord Johnson, Wendy Nann Richard, Amanda Blanchard, and Jacob Johnson; fourteen great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elza and Harriet Johnson; one daughter; Loraleen Guthrie; one grandson, Toby Blankenburg. The family would like to thank Christus Hospice and doctors Manley Jordan and Michael Broussard for their excellent care and all their assistance. A special thanks to Pastor Lee Whitley and wife Tina. Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Sweetlake Grand Lake Cemetery. Pastor Lee Whitley will officiate services.
