Stephen “Steve” Thomas Buster, 85, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024. He was born on February 28, 1939, in Coffeyville, KS, to Walter and Lorene Wright Buster. He grew up in Coffeyville and graduated from Coffeyville High School. Rodeo was his passion from high school until the early 1970’s, where he was well-known as a great pick-up man. After his rodeo career, he transitioned to training cutting horses until his retirement.
Stephen was a great man who was incredibly generous with his time and resources, always ready to help. He was able to turn his love and passion for horses into a career that had a major impact on many lives, and he will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Connie Ross Buster; his daughters, Tracy Rhodes (Robert) and Sonya Buster; his grandchildren, Erin Willis (Chris Brown), Ben Todd, Hallie Hoge (Derek), and Marshall Olsan (Casey Barton); and his great-grandchildren, Cullen Willis, Kenzie Willis, Bradlee Domingue, Presley Olsan, and Baby Boy Hoge (on the way).
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Richard and John Buster.
Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. A Celebration of Steve’s life will be held at a later date.
