Steven Miller

March 3, 1949 — January 20, 2025

Steven Ray Miller, born to Herbert Joseph Miller and Mabel Marie (Ancelet) Miller on March 3rd,1949 in Lawtell, Louisiana, passed away peacefully Jan 20th, 2025 in Lake Charles, La. Steve had an undeniable presence that immediately made him the life of the party. He graduated from Lagrange High School in 1968. After graduation, Steve went on to become an apprentice as a sheet metal worker, where he made his career fashioning up many ‘metal’ things over his lifetime. Steve was a member of the Sheet Metal Union Local 214 for 52 years. There was absolutely nothing he could not make. His interests and hobbies didn’t stop at metalworking. Our Dad worked hard but played harder. He loved horses, rodeos, boxing, and most of all, riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Let’s not forget dancing the night away on any given night. Steve was known for being one of the best dancers in town, winning many dance contests at the Annual Cajun Music festivals. He taught every one of us to dance with our feet on his and truly blessed us with a love of all things music. Steve was a fixture at the Neighborhood bar, where playing pool was a weekly routine. He still had weekly “tournaments” at his home until his death. No one will ever forget his laugh or his signature sayings like “how you say”, “in a nutshell” or “GIT U SUM.” No matter how hard life became, our Dad was always smiling, always laughing, and always wanted to make you feel at home. All were welcomed and offered a barstool and a Miller Lite.

Steve is survived by his children: Steven Troy Miller (Dana), Lafayette, La., Amanda Rae Miller Hurd (Christopher), Moss Bluff, La., and Sharon Marie Miller Smith, Lake Charles, La.; sister Alice Miller Eckstrum (John), Montgomery, Tx.; niece Jodi Blacketer(Kevin), Burleson,Tx.; grandchildren Tate Miller, Grant Miller, Rylie Bryant, Raigen Bryant Doucet (Marshall), Zayn Bryant (Claire), Gage Smith, Kasin Smith Jaedon Hurd and Jaythan Hurd; great grandchildren Braylen McLendon and Palmer Doucet; great nephews William and Christian Blacketer and great nieces Annabelle and Mireya Blacketer, as well as his granddogs Leo and Tinsley Hurd and great granddog Mr Wallace Bryant. Cousins upon cousins and numerous friends who became family will also mourn his loss.

Steve is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, sister Sharon Marie Miller, father Herbert Miller, brother Gerald Miller, and mother Mabel Miller. Also his best friend Larry Ardoin, who I know was welcoming him into Heaven with a cold Miller Lite and some French Music.

A memorial service will be held in Steves's Memory On Saturday, February 1st, 2025 at 2:00 pm, at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Visitation will be open to the public at 12:00 before services.
