Susan Denise Hicks

July 3, 1969 — May 21, 2022

Susan Denise Hicks, 52, of Sulphur gained her angel wings Saturday, May 21, 2022.

A lifelong resident of SWLA, Denise was a graduate of Sulphur High School Class of 1987. She
earned two degrees from McNeese State University and was currently working on a third degree.
As a young child, she began bowling with her family; in 1987 she was named the Louisiana State
Bowler of the Year for the girl’s division. Denise began her career in 2010 with the Sulphur
Police Department as dispatcher and was currently the Secretary for Sulphur Chief of Police. She
loved working for the police department and considered every one of them family. In 2014, she
received the Communications Officer of the Year Award from the Sulphur Police Association.
Denise was an avid Astro’s fan and enjoyed her and Bill’s cooking night each week.

Denise loved ALL children and was “Nanny” to many. After losing her beautiful daughters at
such young ages, she received her greatest joy from the ones who called her Nanny. She will be
remembered as a quietly strong woman who was kindhearted and loving.

She was met at Heaven’s gates by her two precious daughters, Shelbi Lynn Hicks, and Alisa
Nicole Hicks; mother, Barbara Bourgeois; maternal grandparents, Louis Bertrand and Elodie
Bertrand; paternal grandparents, Nelson Bourgeois and Verna Ann Bourgeois; and her best friend
Rebecca Reon Vincent.

Left to cherish her memory are her father, Michael Bourgeois of Sulphur; sister,
Tiffany Ivy and husband, John of Bridge City, TX; niece and Godchild, Marissa Moore and
husband, Gage; and nephew, Dalton Ivy and wife, Kaitlyn, of Bridge City, TX. She will remain
in the hearts of her great nieces and nephews, Bryson, Katerina, and Drake Moore; and Spencer
and Delilah Ivy all of Bridge City; and godchildren, Steven Mere, Savannah Mere, Megan
Alexander, and Chloe Landry. Susan Denise will also be greatly missed by her special friend and
significant other, Bill Browne; and her Sulphur Police Department family.
