Susan Claire Forrest Matte, 55, was called home on November 25, 2011 as her loving family stood at her side.
Born to James Patrick and Evelyn Ann DeJean Forrest, Jr., Sue was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. She was a 1974 graduate of Barbe High School and received her Associates Degree in Office Administration from McNeese State University in 1976. From 1974-1976 Sue worked as a secretary for the Governor's Program for Gifted Children and from 1976-1979, she was secretary in the Psychology Department at MSU. After her daughters attained school age, Sue joined the staff of Prien Lake Elementary in 1990, where she was school clerk for 21 years, retiring in May, 2011. Sue enjoyed gardening and most especially, working with children. She had the special gift of being able to relate to children and touched the lives of many in a wonderful and positive way. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.
Sue is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Bryan Matte; two daughters, Laura Granger and husband Lee and Nancy Boudreaux and husband Matthew; two grandchildren, Grant and Mollie Granger, all of Lake Charles; three brothers, David Forrest and wife Darlene of Moss Bluff, Carl Forrest and wife D'Ann of Sulphur, Dan Forrest, of Westlake; and one sister, Cathy Landry and husband Scott, also of Lake Charles.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday November 27, 2011, at Johnson Funeral Home. Father Keith Pellerin will officiate. Interment will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be today from 2:00 PM until 9:00PM, with a rosary at 6:00PM. Visitation will continue on Sunday from 11:00AM until service time.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family requests memorial donations may be made to The Ethel Precht HOPE Breast Cancer Foundation, 165 W. Precht Rd., Bell City, LA 70630.
The family wishes to express their grateful appreciation to by Brighton Bridge Hospice and the nurses and staff of the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Chemotherapy Laboratory for the compassionate care given to Sue during her illness.
