Susan Kay Holmes, known to everyone as Kay, passed on to her Savior Jesus on August 6, 2024, at 69 years of age after battling a long-term illness. Kay was born on October 3, 1954, in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Richard H. Holmes, Sr. and Charley Ray Broussard Holmes.
Kay had a very big and gregarious personality, and she was known for her "real" and forthright approach to life. One did not have to guess what she was thinking. She knew how to have fun and provide fun for those for whom she cared, and she often was the "life of the party". She worked very hard in all her endeavors, big and small. Kay overcame many obstacles in her life and continued to drive forward in the noise and great difficulty. She lived for many years with a disability and continued to fight on and provide a high level of care for those she loved. Kay was a daughter, a sister, a mother, an aunt, a great-aunt, a cousin, a caretaker, and a very close friend to many people. She was deeply loved by many and had deep love for many relatives and dear friends. She always had a dog. She was a long-time resident of Lake Charles, Louisiana. She was a teacher at Maplewood Elementary School and retired from the Calcasieu Parish School Board. She was a graduate of McNeese State University and LaGrange Senior High School. She was a congregant of Emmanuel Baptist Church and was loved and cared for by the members there.
Kay was a very strong person and loved with a very big love. Many people have stories of how she loved and cared for them. She lived life to the fullest, and she will be deeply missed by many friends and relatives.
She was pre-deceased by her parents and her sister, Jennifer Holmes.
She is survived by her daughter, Victoria "Tori" Holmes and her nephews Dustin Meeks and Taylor Meeks, for whom she lovingly cared in their childhood. She was always there for them all. She was also survived by her brothers, Richard H. Holmes, Jr. (Jackie) and Charles D. Holmes "Dan" (Yvonne) and numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 10, 2024, beginning at 2:00PM, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3626 Common St. Lake Charles, LA. 70607. Visitation will be Saturday, from 12:00PM until 2:00PM also at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Burial will follow the funeral in Highland Memory Gardens. The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St. Lake Charles, LA. 70605.
In lieu of flowers, Tori would like people bring backpacks with school supplies in them to be donated to a local school.
