Susan Lynn Nelson, 55, of Lawrence, KS passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 in a Sulphur care facility. Susan was born on March 1, 1960 in McPherson, KS. She lived her adult life at Cottonwood Group Home in Lawrence, KS until moving to Lake Charles to be near her family. Susan was a graduate of Lawrence High School. She participated in the Special Olympics having been a proud recipient of several medals. Susan had a strong faith and knew Jesus Christ as her Savior and was a devoted member of Lawrence Baptist Temple. She loved to sing hymns and she carried her Bible and Hymnal with her every place she went. She adored her family and looked forward to spending holidays with them and participating in family celebrations. She will be missed by all who were blessed to have known Susan. She was a joy to everyone she met. Those left to cherish her memory are two brothers, Brad Nelson (Karen Bearb) of Lake Charles and Tim Nelson (Lisa) of Overland Park, KS; a sister, Cassie Nelson of Sarasota, FL; a niece, Kay Nelson Laningham (Bryce) of Calhoun, LA; a nephew, Grant Nelson of Lake Charles; a niece, Sara Nelson of Overland Park, KS; a nephew, Aleks Nelson of Overland Park, KS; aunts and uncles, Jerry and Angie Nelson of McPherson, KS and Cathy and Gary Weaver of Park City, KS. She also leaves behind numerous cousins in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri whom she dearly adored. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Rita Nelson; grandparents, John and Bea Nelson and Pete and Wilma Grismore; and an aunt, Nancy Nelson Guiot. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 21, 2015 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Phil Carpenter will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Friday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will resume on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
