Suzette Barton Chandler

July 29, 1963 - December 22, 2011

Suzette Barton Chandler, age 48, joined her Savior Jesus Christ on December 22, 2011 while at home in Mobile, Alabama, following a lengthy illness.

As a professional fine artist, Suzette's work was a dichotomy of post-impressionist themes and expressionist abstracts. The paintings were unified through an extremely bright palette developed as a response to the dark, gloomy winters of the Netherlands, where she resided for two years. Her work reflected her residence in and travels throughout Europe. Suzette's paintings were available through numerous galleries and at fine art shows throughout the U.S.

Suzette was a 1981 graduate of St. Louis High School. She earned her B.A.in Fine Arts Art History from Louisiana State University. Suzette spent many happy summers throughout her high school and college years as a camper and then as counselor at Camp Hardtner in Pollock, LA. As an adult, her love for Camp Hardtner continued for many years serving as Dean. She highly valued her many lifelong friends made through Camp Hardtner.

Suzette was a gentle soul and loved animals of many kinds, particularly dogs. She rescued many dogs over the years and was successful in finding loving homes for many of them.

Suzette is survived by her husband of 24 years, Scott Keel Chandler of Mobile, Alabama; her mother, Ella Jessen Tan and stepfather, Eduardo Alpay Tan of North Syracuse, New York; her brother, Keith Price and wife, Barbara of Memphis Tennessee; her sister, Lisa Barton Mayo and husband, Mike of Lake Charles, LA; her uncle Walter Jessen and wife, Melissa of Lake Charles, LA; her aunts Barbara Yeagy of Houston, TX and Jane Lumpkin and husband, Brent of Lake Charles, LA; her three nieces and one nephew; many extended family and friends; and "Little Boy", her constant companion.

She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, D. W. Jessen Sr. and Barbara Barton Jessen.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Dec 27, 2011, at 10:30 AM at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 715 Kirkman St., Lake Charles, LA. The Reverend Fred Devall will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Camp Hardtner "Fill the Canoe Campaign" at 2393 Camp Hardtner Road, Pollock, LA 71467. More information may be found at camphardtner.org.
