S.V. "Steve" McDaniel, Jr., 76, of Lake Charles was called home Saturday, November 05, 2011 from a local hospital.
Mr. McDaniel was born, raised and educated in the Birmingham, AL area. He has lived forty- five years in Lake Charles. He served the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict for which he was awarded many medals. Mr. McDaniel retired in Oil Exploration after having worked most of his life in the Oil and Gas Industry. He was a member of the Lake Charles Masonic Lodge #165 and the Singles Club.
Steve was an avid fisherman, spending a lot of his time fishing and dancing with his wife, Verna. He also enjoyed cooking and entertaining with family and friends.
He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife, Verna R. McDaniel of Lake Charles; one son, Jace Sweeney of Sulphur; one daughter, Valerie McCullough and husband Bryan of Sulphur; four grandchildren, Melissa Chavez and husband Enrique, Tasha Matthews, Billy Christian and Josh McCullough; two great- grandchildren, Ezra and Emma Chavez; three brothers, James Overdorf and wife Karen of Jersey Shore, PA, John Raines and wife Pat of Riverview, FL and Morris Raines of Birmingham, AL and a very special aunt, Dot Wehby of Birmingham, AL.
Masonic Rite services will begin at 9:45 AM Wednesday. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 9, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Father Vincent Sedita will officiate. Interment will follow in Pinehill Cemetery in Iowa. Visitation Tuesday will be from 10:00 AM until 8:00PM with a rosary and scripture service beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Wednesday will be from 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
