Tanas "Joe" Newman

Joe Newman, 77, of Lake Charles, passed away on Sunday May 8, 2022 at his home after an extended illness.

Joe was a longtime resident of Lake Charles, where he attended Marion High School. He retired as a maintenance specialist from the Calcasieu Parish School board, having last worked at Barbe High School for many years. In his younger years, he enjoyed Fishing and spending time with his family outdoors. He had always been a fan of the New Orleans Saints and NASCAR, and more recently spent his time watching Movies and boxing.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Tanas (Sr.) and Gladys Cuviller Newman; and a son, Shane Newman. He leaves to honor and cherish his memories eight children, Michael Newman, Sr. (Leslie), Sulphur; Steve Newman, Sr. (Lisa), Troy, Texas; Ricky Newman (Jacqui), Greely, Colorado; Tina Hollier (Michael), Sulphur; Jacob Newman (Kayla), Lake Charles; Jason Newman (Shelly), Sulphur; Sherry Bertrand-Book (Robert), LeBleu Settlement and Patrick Emmels (Marsha), Lafayette; siblings, Russell Newman, Scotty Newman (Lisa) and Patricia Bellard; best friend and caregiver, Shelia Sarvaunt; 26 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great grandchildren and extended family.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday May 11, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, and will continue on Thursday May 12 from 9:00 until 10:00 AM. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday May 12 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
