Ted Drott

June 2, 1931 — December 23, 2021

A devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an avid sportsman, Ted Drott lived a full and happy life.  Born in 1931 to Theodore and Frances Taylor Drott, Ted was raised in Oakdale, Louisiana until at seventeen he lied about his age to join the Air Force early.  He served as a clerk typist from 1948-1952 and was stationed on Long Island and in Washington, DC.

While stationed in DC, he went on a blind date with a young nursing student from Virginia, Catherine Hendrickson, and married her 5 months later.  They were inseparable until her death in January 2007.  They moved to the Lake Charles area in 1952, where Ted worked for Cities Service Company at the CitCon lube plant for 34 years, retiring at age 55 as a chemist.

Ted enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting guns throughout his life and after retirement, he took up competitive pistol shooting.  He attended Camp Perry National Championship as a bullseye competitor twice and won numerous trophies in bullseye, action pistol, and silhouette shooting at local and regional meets.  At the Southwest Rifle and Pistol Range where he served as a range officer for years, he was considered a “walking encyclopedia” often advising members on reloading and gunsmithing.

Ted passed away on December 23, 2021 at age 90 in Crockett, TX, where he relocated after hurricane Laura.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Catherine Hendrickson Drott, brother L. B. Drott, sister Louise Clausen, daughter Theresa Cochran, and grandson Todd Ott.  He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Bob and Nancy Drott, daughter and son in law, Debbie and Richard Ott, daughter Kay Stephenson, son-in-law Mike Cochran, 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild.

Ted was beloved by his family, neighbors, and friends.  He always had a smile and a story to share and will be profoundly missed by those who loved him.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Eastridge Baptist Church with military honors to follow.
