Thelma H. Chapman

Thelma H. Chapman, 92, of Lake Charles, LA died Friday, February 6, 2015 at a local hospital. Thelma was born on September 5, 1922 in DeRidder, LA to Thomas Luther and "Bertie" Houston. She was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles, LA. Thelma graduated from Fairview High School in 1940. She later attended Vincent Business College. During the 1940's Thelma owned and operated a grocery store in Lake Charles, LA. After retiring from the Lake Charles water company she took up her long time passion of being an avid antique collector. She also enjoyed playing games on the computer. At the young age of 92 she still enjoyed Facebook. Thelma was a long time member of Sale Street Baptist Church. Through the years she served the Lord in several capacities. Even though she had no children, Thelma's heart and home was always open to her nieces and nephews. She made each one of them feel special and loved. She is survived by a nephew, Don Hamilton of Austin, TX; three nieces, Pam Hollier of Denver , CO, Karen Collet and husband Michael of DeQuincy, LA, and Barbara Stacy and husband Jerry of Sulphur, LA; 11 great nieces and nephews; and numerous great great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Edsel " Chap" Chapman; her parents; three sisters, Aline Hamilton, Pauline Bertrand, and Jane Nelson; one niece, Frankie Parker. Services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM Monday, February 9, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 8:00 AM until time of service Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Hamilton Cemetery in Grant, LA. Rev. Randy Edwards will officiate services.
